Family Photo Location Ideas

Are you planning on updating your family portraits this year?! I sure hope so!

If you’re on the hunt for a new location idea to help keep things fresh, I’m here to help! In general, I love to incorporate some of your family’s favourite activities to keep things personal, comfortable, and fun; so while some of these options may be simple, it might be exactly what you’re looking for. Check out a few favourite ideas below!

1. Walk your favourite Trail. While this is a very popular option for Fall , going for a stroll along your favourite path is a year round activity that is sure to be a hit in any season. There are so many trail options to choose from, and usually quite a few that are very close to home - a total bonus!

2. Hit the Beach. If you love being by the water and feeling the sand between your toes, the beach is a perfect option for your family’s next session. Whether there’s one nearby, or you want to head to the Cottage to personalize it even more, it’s always a hit with the whole crew!

3. Stay cozy at home. While it may seem like a no-brainer, an at-home session is an amazing option for updating your portraits. It’s the spot where you’ve all shared so many memories, and it can seamlessly help tell the story of this chapter of your lives to look back on in the future. Celebrating moving into your first place? One last chapter before moving on to your next one? Mid-renovation? All sound perfect!

4. Grab some ice cream. Turn a fun summer past time into a unique twist on this year’s family portraits. Adding in an activity your kids love to do anyways always helps with a candid (and sweet) approach to being in front of the camera.

5. Go to the Park. An amazing option for families with young kiddos. It’s a perfect place to incorporate playful imagery and often they’re in an area with alternative backdrops that are just as useful!

6. Explore your neighbourhood. This can easily be coupled with an at-home session or trip to the park if you want more than one option. Head out the front door and explore the few blocks around your home! You’ll get a great amount of variety and using your own neighbourhood as the setting will automatically add the personal touch you might be looking for.

While the options for session location are endless, I hope this has helped get the ideas rolling! If you wanted to see the full list of options and grab some information on updating your family portraits, I’d love to hear from you!
